Professional Image in a Shaky Economy

4 May 2009

In today’s shaky economy, women face significant challenges. Maintaining a professional image will put the spring back in your step and boost your confidence and self-esteem while showing management that you are committed to your career. Studies show that when you look like a leader you behave like a leader.

Ever had a bad hair day? How did you feel about yourself? How did you act because of it?  According to a survey conducted byCareerBuilder.com 75% of American workers say that clothing or personal appearances influence attitudes about professionalism.

Did you know that within 3 seconds of a person meeting you they have made judgments about your profession, education, income, intelligence, and personality?  These judgments are based on the way you dress, speak and carry yourself.

Maintaining a professional image is fast and easy when you have the right  tools. . . Here are a few tips & tools that will have you polished in no time.

Hair:

Long, mid-length or short are all fine; the key is to arrange your hair neatly, in a style  that allows your eyes to be clearly visible. Hair hanging in your face gives the impression you are in hiding or lack confidence. An updated cut and color are great, when you have the time and money.

Busy women need quick, easy and stylish hair fashions. Using a hairpiece  gives you the option to have a classic bun, orderly up-do, added height, curls, or long tresses in five minutes. Hairpieces provide the versatility to go from work, to play, to evening with very little effort. Check-out  the hairpiece and wig catalogs to  see what so many women are talking about.

Makeup
:

You’ve heard less is more, but just enough is better. A classic look portrays you as put together and confident. All you need in your beauty kit for this look is a foundation that evens out your skin tone, a warm shade of blush, and a great mascara and lip color. Got a few more minutes? Add neutral eye shadow colors. Using an eyelash curler and a bit of concealer will open your eyes and rid them of the tired look.

To help you put your best face forward I’ve put together Makeover kits that will  minimize guess work and help you see what colors go together and which hairstyles  will optimize your look.

If you are a girl who knows what she likes, try one of the select makeover kits and choose the hairstyle and color package that suits you best. Sometime it’s hard to know exactly what will suit you best. Not to worry! I’ll put together a kit consisting of hair and makeup that fits your lifestyle, tones, and features. This can be done on line using the custom makeover or in person during a makeover session.

Clothes:

Stick with the classics- a 3 Piece Suit - jacket, skirt and pants in a solid color, navy blazer, and a crisp white shirt. Few clothes say Polished Professional Image better than the classics. More and more companies have a casual environment where pants rule. If you find yourself in this kind of work environment, choose to wear dress slacks, rather than jeans or khaki-type pants. If you prefer skirts, A-line and pencil skirts are great choices to suit all body shapes. Choose blouses and tailored shirts because they have more structure and hold their shape instead of knits and tees. And always keep a jacket handy, just in case.

Color & Accessories:

Some colors have more of a professional image than others.  Although navy blue and black are the standard professional colors, you can still wear brighter colors without jeopardizing your image. The key is placement. Wear your bright colors and prints as accessories: blouses, shoes and bags. Intelligent and moderate use of bright colors will sharpen your professional image.
